bulletIs cdTree 3 standard (freeware version)  compatible cdTree 3 Pro (Shareware versions)
bulletYes the data file is the same..

bulletDo I need to upgrade to cdTree 3 Pro (Shareware versions)
bulletNo you don't, You only need to do this if you want to take advantage of some of the cool features available in the Pro version only, like DVD and CD Inlay printing, Auto-Sensing CD insertion, MP3 support, Zip files support, Enhanced audio CDs support, Internet connection to retrieve audio CD and track information and finally the XML and CSV export...

bulletIs cdTree 3 compatible cdTree 1
bulletThe data catalogs have different format, but the new version of cdTree 3.1.2 comes up with a built-in catalog upgrade feature which will let you convert your data automatically to the new format.

bulletIs cdTree 3 compatible cdTree 2
bulletYes, the data catalogs have exactly the same format.

bullet"I am happy with cdTree 1, Is their a way to disable the screen 'Program is too old' which pops-up every time I start the old cdTree"
bulletI am afraid not, this prompt cannot be disabled and their is no registry entry to allow you to bypass this prompt. Yet the newest version is very stable and you should be able to upgrade very smoothly.

bulletSetup prompts me to update some system files, and after the update it will keep doing the same thing.
bulletYou are probably using release 2.1.1 or 2.1.2 which suffers from this behavior on 98, 98se and winMe operating systems. This is because the new cdTree was developed on an XP pro system with the latest updates and service packs all applied. The application works fine on an XP and other windows platforms, but the setup and packaging tool which came with the ver 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 did include some operating system files which are not compatible with the older operating systems, and this causes these problems.
We did react immediately and purchased a third party setup package, to replace the original one. The new packaging software do not suffer from this problem. The setup package is stable since then.

bulletSetup prompts me to replace a system file and after a reboot I got an error relating msvcrt.dll.
bulletSee note above. Sometimes the replacement of this file might render the machine unstable until this file is replaced back. If you still have the old versions of cdTree (2.1.1 or 2.1.2) on your machine, then please delete them and never install them again.
As far as the newer version, starting from 2.1.6 , all these issues are solved.

bulletcdTree cannot scan a CD or after a scan which looks like as if it was working nothing gets saved and the CD size is zero.
bulletThis behavior exist in releases prior to 2.1.6 in win98, 98se and winMe operating systems. It is due to the introduction of a feature to allow you to scan network drives through their UNC names using long path names. This feature works fine on the development box, which have an XP pro installed.
It is a shortcoming from our side, when we took it for granted that the UNC names will behave similarly on the 98s operating systems, but the long path functionality did not behave on the older operating systems as expected, so we fixed the issue after locating the problem is version 2.1.6 and above.

bulletPrint Preview comes up with invalid font for all the line drawing symbols.
bulletThis is because of missing font file. The setup program sometimes is not registering a font file which comes with cdTree properly. The problem is fixed in the new releases (2.1.6 and up).
If you are using the newest version of cdTree and you are still experiencing this problem, then please email the cdTree Help Support "support@vbKnowledgeSolutions.com" and they should be able to help you.

bulletData Compaction and Data Backup Fails.
bulletMany reasons might make this fail, ie disk full, network disconnected, bad CD,..etc, yet many of these issues have been addressed in Version 2.1.6 and newer versions

bulletData upgrade does not even start, even though a valid 1.1.5 file is requested to be upgraded.
bulletYou are probably running an older version of cdTree on a 98 or winMe machine (See above). To solve this issue, please download version 2.1.6 or newer.

bulletI am having a problem with some of the controls used are of the old version and they seems to not update after an installation.
bulletThis issue is because the installation program is electing to bypass updating some operating-system files, in order not to confuse the compatibility of these dlls. To fix this problem please install the visual basic 6 sp5 run-time redistribution pack from the Microsoft website at the url below
